STAN Mathematics Books 1 – 3 for Junior Secondary Schools adequately cover The content specifications of the Junior Secondary Mathematics Curriculum approved by the Federal Ministry of Education and Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC). Beyond this, it considers examination requirements of the Junior Secondary Examination.

 

This series was written to bring about improvement in the area of content presentation and analysis, visual representation, activity illustrations and assessments. Therefore, special attention was paid to the format/structure where, for each chapter, the topic precedes a set of objectives, activities, treatment of the contents with practical illustrations, assessment Quantitative Reasoning and a summary which highlights the major concepts covered.

An innovative introduction in this series is the preparatory chapter that precedes each book planned to find out and sustain the entry behavior of the learners.

Of importance is the attention paid to assessment. In order to aid continuous assessment, the exercises, review questions and revision test items have been carefully graded. The revision test items have been slotted into appropriate sections of each book. In addition, other prominent features in this Book are the inclusion of the idea of the computer using the Binary System; Past Questions from various Examining Bodies and Mathematical and Conversion Tables.

We are grateful to the Federal and State Ministries of Education and the West African Examinations Council for the past questions used in the text.

The course writers were drawn from the members of the Mathematics Panel of STAN who themselves have been involved in the teaching of mathematics and in the running of improvement workshops for the teachers.
