ANNOUNCEMENT OF PASSING
With total submission to the will of God, we announce the passing of Alhaji Waheed Akin Olajide, which occurred on Monday, 25th August, at the age of 76. Alhaji Olajide was the immediate past Managing Director/CEO of University Press Plc. He joined the services of University Press Plc on 1st March 1983 as Management Accountant and rose to become the Managing Director/CEO in 1993, the position he held until his retirement on 31st March 2005.
At University Press Plc, Alhaji Olajide was more than a boss to us. He served with excellence as the Managing Director. He was a mentor, a father, and a builder of people. He believed in raising leaders, not just making profits. Many people are products of his guidance, discipline and encouragement. He ran an open door, listened to staff, and insisted that work must be done with humility and service to nation-building through education and dedication to work. He was known as a fair and principled leader. He created opportunities for many and mentored countless young people. His leadership was founded on honesty, hard work, and the idea that success must be used to serve others. His legacy of professionalism, fairness, and compassion continues to shape University Press Plc.
Although he retired from University Press Plc more than two decades before his demise, he continued to engage with the leadership of the Company, offering advice, standing in the gap where necessary. His footprint remains in the system he built and the lives he touched till he passed on.
We pray God forgives him, accepts his good works, and grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus. His memory and values will live on with us.
